Here is a list of 10 things to know before you build a rainwater recycling system for your house;

  1. Scope out your storage, storage tanks will be bigger than you think.
  2. If you plan an automated system – make sure it has failsafes built in.
  3. Make sure you comply with local and national water laws.
  4. Make sure filtering is included in the system.
  5. Consider different types of storage tanks; large custom made raintanks can be very expensive!
  6. What would happen in the event of an emergency.
  7. What needs to happen in the event of moving house (eg. how to unhook the system).
  8. Make sure that any water storage is safe; ie. it has secure lids to stop pets and kids getting in.
  9. Make sure any electrical connections are fit in accordance with local and national laws.
  10. KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid)!
